The last human on Mars had been living on the planet for over a decade. In that time, she had seen the planet change drastically, from a barren wasteland to a thriving ecosystem. She had seen the first plants take root and the first animals emerge. She had seen the first human settlers arrive and the first cities begin to take shape.
But now, the future of Mars was uncertain. The planet was still in its infancy, and the human population was still small. It was unclear what the future would hold for the planet and its inhabitants.
