Part 3: The King's Request (858 BC) The Oracle of Delphi: A Tale of Ancient Time

King Croesus of Lydia had heard of the Oracle of Delphi and her great powers of prophecy. He was intrigued by the stories and wanted to know if the Oracle could tell him the future. He decided to send a messenger to Delphi to ask the Oracle a question.

The messenger arrived at Delphi and made his way to the temple of Apollo. He was met by the priestess of the temple, who welcomed him and asked him the reason for his visit. The messenger explained that he had been sent by King Croesus to ask the Oracle a question.

The priestess nodded and led the messenger into the temple. She then instructed him to kneel before the Oracle and ask his question. The messenger did as he was told and asked the Oracle, "What will be the outcome of King Croesus' next battle?"

The Oracle was silent for a moment before she spoke. "If King Croesus goes to war, he will lose his kingdom," she said.

The messenger thanked the Oracle and quickly left the temple. He returned to Lydia and reported his findings to King Croesus. The King was shocked by the Oracle's prophecy and decided to heed her warning. He abandoned his plans to go to war and instead focused on strengthening his kingdom.

The Oracle of Delphi had once again proven her power and wisdom. King Croesus had learned a valuable lesson and would never forget the Oracle's warning.
