The Oracle of Delphi had been known for her wisdom and insight for many years. She was sought out by kings and rulers from all over the ancient world for her advice and guidance.
In 858 BC, King Croesus of Lydia came to Delphi to seek the Oracle's wisdom. He was a powerful ruler and wanted to know if he should go to war with the Persians.
The Oracle told him, "If you go to war with the Persians, a great kingdom will be destroyed." King Croesus was taken aback by the Oracle's words and asked for clarification.
The Oracle replied, "The great kingdom that will be destroyed is your own. If you go to war with the Persians, you will be defeated and your kingdom will be destroyed."
King Croesus was shocked by the Oracle's words and decided not to go to war with the Persians. He returned to Lydia and lived out the rest of his days in peace.
The Oracle of Delphi's wisdom had saved King Croesus and his kingdom from destruction. Her words of wisdom and insight would be remembered for centuries to come.
