Part 2: Crossing the Border "The Journey of a Thousand Miles: My Life as an Undocumented Immigrant"

It was a hot summer day in June when I made the decision to leave my home in Mexico and cross the border into the United States. I was only sixteen years old, but I was determined to make a better life for myself and my family. I had heard stories of people who had made the journey before me and I was determined to make it too.

I had saved up enough money to pay a coyote, a smuggler, to take me across the border. I was scared but I was also excited. I knew that this was my chance to make something of myself and I was determined to make it work.

The journey was long and arduous. We had to cross the desert on foot and it was a grueling experience. I was exhausted and dehydrated by the time we reached the border. I was also scared. I had heard stories of people being caught by the border patrol and I was worried that I would be next.

Fortunately, we made it across the border without incident. I was relieved and excited to be in the United States. I had made it! I was now an undocumented immigrant in a new country. I was determined to make the most of this opportunity and I was ready to start my new life.
