Part 8: Facing Discrimination "The Journey of a Thousand Miles: My Life as an Undocumented Immigrant"

The journey of a thousand miles was not easy for me as an undocumented immigrant. I faced a lot of discrimination and prejudice from people who did not understand my situation. I was often treated as if I was a criminal or a second-class citizen.

I was often asked questions like “Why are you here?” or “What are you doing here?” as if I had no right to be in the country. I was also asked to prove my identity and citizenship status, which I could not do.

I was also subjected to racial profiling. I was often stopped and questioned by police officers who assumed I was an illegal immigrant. I was even asked to show my papers, which I could not do since I did not have any.

I was also discriminated against in the workplace. I was often denied jobs because of my undocumented status. Employers would ask for proof of citizenship, which I could not provide.

I was also discriminated against in housing. I was often denied apartments because of my undocumented status. Landlords would ask for proof of citizenship, which I could not provide.

I faced a lot of discrimination and prejudice, but I never gave up. I kept fighting for my rights and for a better life. I eventually became a citizen and was able to live the life I had always dreamed of.
